Is it a teacher? Is it a Pupil? No, it's a Super Hero!
Children from Pikes Lane Primary School, Bolton, were astonished by the transformation of their teachers into what seemed like superheroes as part of their World Book Day celebrations 2017. Louise McArdle, Head Teacher said ‘The day started like any other ordinary day for the children then they were surprised by an impressive combination of video special effects and live theatre to transform the staff into superheroes during assembly. The children were astonished and the reactions were amazing’.
Lauren McCaffrey, Assisstant Head Teacher said ‘We are always trying to find new and interesting ways to encourage our pupils to read more. We like to make sure we highlight and celebrate all of the positive role models that can be found in books’.
The assembly ended with the revelation that the teachers had no special powers but did aspire to have the personal qualities of their heroes. “Not everyone can fly but everyone can be kind and honest and do the right thing. So we can all be heroes even if we are not Super ones ‘ Said Hassan, Aged 10.
Through out the rest of the day pupils took part in a variety of reading tasks, competitions and tasks to explore the personal qualities of their heroes and role models. The celebration was a part of the national world book day celebrations. Which celebrates authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) reading. It is the biggest celebration of its kind and has bee designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
